I could not have asked for a better Mother’s Day! The only negative part of the entire day was that my husband was out of the country traveling for business. But, being the wonderful father and husband that he is, he made all of the plans and card/gift buying before he left.
We began the day by going to church together. There is nothing I enjoy more than worshiping the Lord with my family.
After lunch Jonathan treated us to lunch at Panera. Their summer salad with strawberries and blueberries is back, so I was one very happy camper!
After lunch we went home to open cards and presents and enjoy a quiet afternoon.
We were a little bored so we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to check out a park near our home that we had never visited. It turned out to be a very good decision.
It was a great park! The walking trail we ventured down ended up being a little over 2 miles round trip and Alexis walked most of it on her own. We were really impressed with her stamina and determination.
At one point we took a turn that we thought led us out but actually led us to a boat slip right in the middle of a marsh. It was rather creepy as we stepped off of the wooden dock onto a concrete slab in the middle of the dark, murky water. My vivid imagination could picture gators and snakes making their way onto the slab and terrorizing us. Needless to say we didn’t say very long near the water and made our way quickly back to the safety of the dock!
After our walk through the woods we made a stop by the most awesome playground! It was completely enclosed by a fence and had so many climbing, swinging and riding options for the children. There were also paved paths all around the perimeter of the playground and snaking through the middle where children could ride their bikes.
If you remember last year when we brought Alexis home from China, she was petrified of playgrounds. We never determined the source of her fear but thankfully she has conquered those fears and loves playgrounds now.
I think her favorite thing at the park was swinging. To my knowledge it was her first time to swing and she loved it! She just laughed and giggled with joy as we shared a swing and went higher and higher.
It was such a hot day and we were already tired from our 2 mile trek through the woods, so we didn’t stay very long at the park.
We ended the day with a yummy dinner at home and just spending time together.
It was an amazing day and I am blessed to get to be a mom to these two amazing people.
